In this project, Grossi Maglioni, performing as the Magic Duo,draw upon the classic illusionist’strick of sawing the assistant into three parts, focusing specifically on the segmentcontaining thepelvis. In their performances, however, the magician is entirely absent, leaving only the twoassistants, who together activate a “magical device” and playfully exchange roles and positions, subtly undermining the patriarchal logic underpinning traditional stage magic. At the same time, in the work the artists reflect on language itself, exploring how it can bedestabilised and transformed through the embodied, affective experience. In its final iteration, the work took the form of along-distance performance, deepening theexploration of giving instructions and the use of score and choreography as tools to guide, shape, and enter into relation with the audience.
