A direct extension of the project Beast Mother, the soil cake depicted in the picture intertwines the act of creation and resubjectivation with themes of desire and the erotic, continuing Grossi Maglioni’s meditation on female pleasure, bodily sensuality, and the interconnectedness of desire and identity. The horizontal form of the cake, realised in the context of Agricola Cornelia and evoking Gianfranco Baruchello’s mediation on sweetness, becomes a ground for contemplation and for an interspecies redefinition of the corporeal, while also alluding to the duo’s earlier research on the subject of dreams. The site-specific installation served as a prelude to a larger inquiry into anthropomorphic desserts from Italian tradition, offered as tokens of love and desire.
