“Lo sguardo che offende” (The Offending Gaze) is a photographic project by artists Grossi Maglioni, featuring their own bodies as protagonists. The artists employ self-designed optical weapons, training their bodies to activate a specific tension in their gaze, which they term “the offending gaze.” This concept suggests that the object of observation, when adequately stimulated by this gaze, can actively respond, inducing a shift in the observer’s perception.
The devices are designed for outdoor use, with the preferred target of this active gaze being the surrounding landscape. Through this project, Grossi Maglioni explore the dynamic interplay between observer and observed, challenging conventional notions of passive spectatorship and exploring the potential for a reciprocal, transformative exchange.
