A temporary shelter stands in a public space, formed by two sheets bearing the inscriptions“SIAMO DELLE vere MOSTRE”and“Creazione a oltranza”,propped up with ropes and stones.Partof theOccupazioniseries, the installation plays with and extends the meaning of the term–ranging from the physical occupation of space tooccupazioneas labour to the occupation (orrejection) of historically denied positions and realms–toexplore the intersections ofmotherhood, artistic labour, and institutional critique. The wordplay onmostre—meaning bothexhibitionsandmonsters—reinforces the ongoing tension between artistic creation and reproductive labour.Thislayering of meanings is deepened by references tothe Nativity, as the artists position themselvesand their children in the work, challenging the traditional depiction of mothers as passive, invisiblefigures. The sheets were originally created for the feminist strike on International Women’s Day,March8th, in Rome, togetherwith Sara Basta, Maria Pia Picozza, and Guendalina Salini.
