This two-part performance, realised between Italy and China, marks the beginning of the project De-Materialisation Machine and Spiritic Cabinet for Disappeared Bodies, and delves into the interplay between the presence and absence of bodies, unfolding as a reflection on materiality, immateriality, and speculative communication across space. Drawing on scientific research into quantum entanglement conducted at CERN in Geneva, it explores the concept of magical disappearance and speculative communication across space. In Guangzhou, the artists created a fictional teleportation device to stage a magic show in which a girl vanishes before the audience’s eyes. Simultaneously in Rome, a séance is held to summon the very figure who has just disappeared. The gallery becomes a site of invocation, where apparitions begin to manifest through subtle shifts in light, a flute playing without a visible source, and flickering video fragments of the moment of vanishing. Following the séance, each participant receives a small votive card by post, a gesture extending the invocation into the personal and the everyday, marking the transmission of presence beyond the limits of the event itself.
