Lo sguardo che offende workshop and performance

“Lo Sguardo Che Offende” is a project that explores the complex relationship between humans and their environment, specifically focusing on the power of the gaze. The artists challenge the notion of a passive observer, proposing that our gaze can actively shape and transform the object of our vision. This concept is explored through a series of optical devices and participatory workshops that culminate in a public performance.

Workshop:

The workshop acts as a catalyst for the installation of “Lo Sguardo Che Offende,” where participants engage with the project’s core themes. They utilize a kit of modular viewfinders, which can be freely assembled to create “clouds” that simulate landscapes and filter the gaze. Participants also interact with a manual containing exercises to train their perceptual abilities and with a series of optical weapons that suggest specific body postures.

During the workshop, participants collaborate to create new optical devices from cardboard and other materials, drawing inspiration from the study of movement and the bodily tension inherent in directing one’s gaze outward. This process encourages a deeper understanding of the relationship between the body, the gaze, and the surrounding environment.

Performance:

The workshop culminates in a public performance at AlbumArte, where the devices created by the participants are activated. This performance serves as a tangible manifestation of the project’s themes, inviting the audience to experience the transformative power of the gaze firsthand.
