The Book Beast Mother is the culmination of an eighteen-month journey by the artistic duo Grossi Maglioni, generously supported by the Italian Council. This groundbreaking work, developed through a series of meetings, discussions, and workshops with individuals of all ages, delves into the complex and often unexplored terrain of motherhood.
Originating from the artists’ personal experiences and a shared desire for consciousness and emancipation, this research, initiated in 2015, challenges the conventional linguistic and iconographic limitations surrounding motherhood. The project’s evolution, spanning Italy and abroad, was profoundly influenced by diverse contributions, notably the inclusion of perspectives from sons and daughters, the ‘creatures,’ enriching the narrative and shaping the very essence of this publication.
Essays by Giulia Pardini, Donatella Saroli, Francesco Ventrella, Isabella Pinto, Vera Maglioni, and Francesca Grossi.
